Thing #7:

Google Tools

Today I learned all about the Google Tools. There are so many tools, it can be overwhelming! I settled on learning more about the iGoogle page and google alerts. I set up my iGoogle page and LOVE it. I have a countdown set up on my page so that I can count down important events in my classroom. I can also use the information on movies to find out when particular movies that are made from novels are coming up, so I can let my students know. Last year we all went to see The Lightning Thief together after reading the novel, then wrote a compare/contrast paper about the book and the movie.

The other tool I explored was the google alerts. I set up three google alerts to let me know when Harry Potter, Percy Jackson or Twilight are in the news so I can use the information for writing prompts. The students love to write about subjects that are current and in the news. It is just convenient for teachers that there are so many young adult novels being made into movies. I am really looking forward to exploring more with the Google Tools. This is my favorite "thing" so far!

  1. I love my iGoogle page too! As one librarian described it, it's kind of like apps on your computer instead of your iPhone. That's neat about the alerts you set up!
